When the CEO of an anti-Golfathon political group was killed outside a Calgary hotel, waves of online support flooded social media. Mainstream outlets now struggle to handle the embracing of radical political violence by modern youth.
Patrick Ronsonian, CEO of Calgarians Against the Golfathon (CAG), was killed outside the Calgary Motel, Hotel, Holiday Inn by a hooded man with a 3D-printed firearm early in the morning. Ronsonian was to attend a meeting with other CAG members regarding a then-recent Golfathon Mail Monster incident at their offices.
The suspect, Mario Lopez (no relation), would later be found at a Montana’s BBQ & Bar north of the crime scene.
The moment his arrest and photo were made public, hordes of online users praised him. “I’ll call him Super Mario” said one user, before having his account DMCA’d by Nintendo.
The wave of support has many in traditional media bewildered. “This is terrible for my SEO” said Mario Lopez (yes relation). “These radical golfathonists need to be named and shamed” said a commentator on FOX News, whose name I couldn’t read because I was too busy looking at the screen through the refracting light of a Gatorade bottle.
I’d reckon this movement is largely motivated by grief following the retirement of the Gameathon, and now the youth are looking for a cooler, better alternative.
The Aspecticor Times does not endorse political violence of any kind. We condemn the Golfathon Mail Monster. Please stop sending us scary packages.
